Philippe Coutinho’s Barcelona position revealed: Ernesto Valverde makes comical claim

BARCELONA manager Ernesto Valverde has lifted the lid on how Philippe Coutinho will fit into his team.

The Brazilian completed a £142million switch from Liverpool yesterday to become the third most expensive player of all time.

And Valverde is excited about Coutinho linking up with his Barcelona squad so he can finally get to test him in different formations.

Coutinho already knows Luis Suarez from their days together at Anfield, while fellow Brazil international Paulinho is also among the ranks.

So Valverde expects him to slot straight into the team without any problems, however, he did joke that there would be one position he does not see Coutinho playing.

Ernesto Valverde has explained how Coutinho will fit into his side.

"I can not see him as a goalkeeper,” Valverde joked.

He then seriously answered that he expects the adaptation period to be very quickly.

“We will wait to see him train, yes I have seen videos with Liverpool, with his team, but we will wait to see him in some training.

"We hope that his adaptation is quick, the great players have that quality.”

Coutinho arrived in Barcelona with a thigh injury picked up while at Liverpool.

However, he could be over the problem by within a week, meaning his debut may arrive when Barca travel to Real Sociedad on Sunday, January 14.
